The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 12/28/05 was: ScarCare treatment . . . recently approved by the FDA. It is the only dual action product that treats scars 24 hours a day. The product contains E-Sil Scar, which uses a 50/50 solution of vitamin E and silicone to enhance the healing of scars resulting from surgical procedures, burns, trama and acne. The gel pads are soft, re-usable and washable. They are sold over the counter for about $20. HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 12/21/05 was: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning . . . it is more common in the winter time. So - here are some tips to prevent exposure:
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 12/14/05 was: A new disposable glucose meter called SideKick. The meter is built into the lid of a vial of test strips. It does not have to be coded and can test the finger or forearm. Once all the 50 strips are used in the vial, they throw the whole system away. It cost about $35, it is very accurate, but does not have all of the bells and whistles that other meters have . . . but, for infrequent testers or travelers, it is ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 12/07/05 was: The recent controversy concerning the Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch. There is a new warning that the patch exposes women to 60% more estrogen than birth control pills. The concern is that the higher the estrogen level might increase the risk for blood clots, but there is no proof yet, that this is true. Women should remember not to cut the patch in half - because they can get too much estrogen at one time. Before doing anything such as stopping the patch or changing to another means of birth control, talk to your doctor. |

The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 11/30/05 was: Traveling with your medicine. This is the time of the year we do a lot of traveling to see family andwe pack our medicines to tke with us. A lot of people use pill minders at home and just throw those in the bag. This is not a good thing to do because prescription medicine should be in a labeled container so it can be identified by security at the airport or by a paramedic if you are injured and can't communicate. Having the label from the pharmacy with the name of the drug and the pharmacy it came from could save your life. Your pharmacist should assist you in providing easy to pack containers that are properly labeled such as small zip lock bags. This also applies to over the counter medicines. Remember the Visiting Nurses Association are at Thrifty Pharmacy this week |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 11/23/05 was: Food Poisoning . . . this is the time of year when we eat a lot of holiday food. We get to having a good time visiting and may not keep up with how long the food has been out for serving. Bacteria can grow very rapidly in some foods, sometimes in only an hour. Leftovers in the fridge can grow bacteria after a few days. These bacteria can result in food poisoning. Signs are diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. This can result in dehydration, which can be serious for young children and senior citizens. Also, remember don't use utensils on more than one food and wash your hands frequently when preparing this years feast for your family. Flu Shots . . . are still available next week, Monday thru Saturday 11:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m. each day at both Thrifty Pharmacy locations. Happy Thanksgiving! |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 11/16/05 was: Information on Medicare Part D . . . the government prescription drug plan. All of the plans are private insurance companies and you may enroll in the plan of your choice. Anyone curently recieving medicare may enroll. In my opinion, (Dr. Dani Lynch), after extensive study, I feel that Community Care Rx is the most fair plan for the money. It offers 3 different choices. For more info, we will be happy to discuss individual needs. Thrifty will be accepting all medicare drug plans regardless of which one you choose. NOTE: Thrifty will have flu shots again in both pharmacies:

The vial comes with a help sticker, which is put on your front door and tells emergency personel that the info is in a vial in the refrigerator. The vials are free at both Thrifty Pharmacy locations. Remember to Haunt the Zoo |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 10/19/05 was: Bird flu hysteria . . . there is truth to the claim that the virus could mutate and end up in the U.S. . . . BUT - at this point in time there is no evidence that it is near the U.S. We also have drugs to deal not only with the flu, but also with the complications that may set in. Tamiflu is an excellent anti-viral and we have many antibiotics to take care of any bacterial complication. We need to stay aware of this flu and remember to was hands (the best preventative), but not be hysterical. |

All you need to do is program the letters ICE (In Case of Emergency) into your cell phone directly before the name of the appropriate person to call. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 9/07/05 was: The Partnership for Prescription Assistance . . . a nationwide program that aids people in obtaining assistance for prescription medications. The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 8/24/05 was: Dangers of mushrooms in your yard. With all the recent rains we have an abundance of wild mushrooms. All mushrooms in the yard must be considered poisonous. Children between 1 and 5 years old are at the highest risk for poisoning. The very least mushroom poisoning can cause is nausea, vomiting & diarrhea. Some can cause liver or kidney damage or even death! The poison control center has already received many calls on mushrooms this year. They say to gather the parts of the mushroom that are left & place it is a paper bag & call your doctor or poison control center immediately. Poison control's # is 800-222-1222. |

The topic discussed on the Danny Williams Show 8/10/05 was: Over the counter aids to stop smoking. With the passing of Peter Jennings, many people have once again given serious thought to quitting smoking. The addiction to tobacco has often been compared to the addictin to heroin and other hard narcotics when it comes to quitting. We have available, Committ Lozenges, which allows the smoker to use them based upon their smoking pattern and how many cigarettes per day are smoked. The "stop-smoking" patches provide a graduated decrease in nicotine as the smoker gets farther away from that last cigarette. Many over-the-counter smoking cessation programs also have support in the form of cassette tapes or CD's and 800 numbers for people to call for help. Remember . . . . . "never quit quitting." |

By migratory birds, mosquitos with the virus transmit it to humans by biting the person. West Nile causes flu-like symptoms which can lead to encephalitis. So we need to use mosquito repellant, make sure we don't have standing water around, etc. For our dogs and cats there is a monthly medication supplied by your veterinarian that will prevent heartworms. |

This discussion is in light of the teenagers that were recently in the news that overdosed. They buy large quantities of medicines containing this chemical . . . then they hallucinate, have slurred speach, are confused, have blurred vision. This can lead to death! I want this to be a wake up call to all parents, as this drug can be obtained easily and is safe and effective in normal doses. Check medicine cabinets at home for cough and cold medicines - make sure they are not missing. Also, watch for bazarre behavior. Listeners can call for more extensive list of symptoms. |

Patients buying medications in other countries - thinking brand name is the same in other countries as it is in the U.S.A. - NOT TRUE! Brand names are used for different drugs in different countries. Examples:
Mix-ups are now more of a danger as people travel more and drugs cross borders more often. Patients who travel outside of the U.S.A. need to make sure they have ample supply so as not to have to buy medications in another country. Also, carry a list of their drugs with brand and generic listed - so they know they are getting the same chemical when they buy a brand name they know. |

The correlation between outside temperature and heart attack risk. Research is showing that if you have hypertension, you take note of the outside temperature. It has been found in recent studies that the risk of heart attack in people with high blood pressure jump about 60% when the thermometer registers 39 degrees F or less. The risk doubles when temperature drops below 25 degrees F. These risks apply only to people with hypertension . . . the suspected reason is cold weather constricts blood vessels, impeding blood flow and raising blood pressure. This is something to take note of - but studies are on-going - stay tuned for further results! |
